Luka Zvizej: ‘The fans are the ones that lead us towards our goal’

‘Our fans truly are our eighth player. Florijani are also at all of our away matches, but in Zlatorog Arena they are definitely the ones who increase the atmosphere, put the hall at its feet but also lead us towards our goal, and that is to win each match we play.

Whenever there is time, we try to hang out with our fans – just as they come to our matches and support us we try to respond by participating in their events.  We especially try to catch up with them while at away matches and to hang out during the little free time that we have because, of course, we all have our own responsibilities. We always try to give back as much as we can, and we are always there in case anyone wants a photo, or an autograph… But I think the most important respond to their loyalty is our game and our accomplishments. What I love seeing is lots of young people coming from different parts of Slovenia – not only from Celje – who support us and also see us as their idols.

Celje is my hometown, and Celje Pivovarna Lasko my first club. I’ve been a part of many different teams during my career, I spent 7 years abroad, and now it’s already the seventh year since I got back… I love playing here, in Celje, and being a part of the team who has its European history, and has its price. It is something not everyone can be a part of. Of course, I’m closer to the end of my career than to its beginning, and I would love, as they say, ‘hang up my boots’ in my own locker room one day.

To all SEHA – Gazprom League followers, I would like to say to truly be the eighth player of the team they support and to fill not only Zlatorog, but each and every arena where handball is being played. They are the reason we play handball – we enjoy when we play a good match and we love to see them enjoying it. That’s exactly why I want to invite everyone that loves handball, but also those who are maybe not really familiar with it, to come, to hang out and to support their team at the matches.’
