So far, we had a chance to meet the mascots of Celje, Vardar and Gorenje. This time, we are heading north. More specifically to Presov, Slovakia – the home of the Slovakian champions Tatran and their cool mascot Nestor.

Presov and Kosice are two rival cities in Slovakia. Horses are associated with Presov, whilst crows are associated with Kosice. Having that in mind, the best suggestion for Tatran’s mascot was a horse, to represent the city of Presov. The club received a lot of similar ideas including mostly other animals, but a horse was thought to be the best and the most popular one.

Nestor is one of the newest mascots in the SEHA – Gazprom League, having first appeared on the 8th of October 2016, before a match against Gorenje Velenje. The mascot represents a noble origin, especially with his name – Nestor.

Having a mascot like that, gives Tatran an opportunity to connect with the fans, especially their youngest supporters. Nestor loves kids, and kids love Nestor. The mascot is always ready to take pictures and hang out with the children during the match in order for them to have fun. He also welcomes the players onto the court before the match, during the light show ceremony. Simply said he is Tatran’s number one fan at all times.

Nestor’s job is not as simple as it seems. It takes a lot of energy to build an atmosphere in the Tatran Handball Arena. He runs, he claps hands and is encouraging the fans to show their support to Tatran. He hopes that the players feel his presence, as he tries really hard to translate the energy to everyone in the Arena.

The atmosphere surrounding Tatran Presov is pretty good right now, as the team is doing really well in the SEHA – Gazprom League. Everyone contributes to the club’s success, including the entertainment squad in Presov, headlined by Nestor, the mascot.
