The year of 2014 brought a lot of changes to Vardar. New owner wanted to make the club more modern, invest more money and make the club even more popular. All those changes resulted in a lot of success, as the Skopje-based team won the Champions League in 2017. The club was on another level, they also wanted to follow the footsteps of other big handball clubs, especially in the area of entertainment and popularization. Vardar even opened their new Arena- Sport Center Jane Sandanski. The club was ready for big things.
That is why Vardar introduced their first ever mascot – the Warrior. He made his first appearance in the premier home match in their new Arena. The club put in a good effort to try and include their fans within the creation of their brand new mascot. They received lot of good suggestions, but ultimately decided to go with the Warrior as they felt like that is the best representation of their club. The Warrior represents bravery, persistence and will to overcome the struggles and win. He matches the club’s virtues, but also has a purpose during home games.
It is interesting that Vardar have two identical Warriors at home matches, and they sometimes symbolically cross swords before the start of the match. Their job is, of course, to entertain the crowd, spend time with the fans. The Warrior always brings his energy to the match in animating the audience and enhancing the atmosphere in the Arena. Considering that Vardar is doing so well in the past few years, the mascot is doing a pretty good job!
The Warrior also welcomes the players onto the court, he is the first one to step on the floor before the match. In a way he leads the team towards the next big victory, making the whole squad fight harder to achieve the win. He also translates the energy and the fighting spirit to the stands, encouraging the fans to be Vardar’s eighth player and join them on the journey. It is clear that the Warrior is a perfect match for Vardar’s organization and players! A perfect mix of power and entertainment – a true Warrior!
