SEHA- Gazprom League- Round 14 in review
February 26, 2018

February brought us the first full round of the strongest regional handball competition. Away teams were successful on three occasions in this round, and 5 teams scored exactly 30 goals. A lot of fans were in the stands, and enjoyed some exciting matches.

Tatran Presov- Vardar 23:30 (13:14)

Almost 1500 people were in Tatran’s Handball Arena to see the match against the European champions. The Slovakians played well in the first half, enjoying brilliant support from their loyal fans. Left winger Jakub Hrstka was the best player for the hosts with 8 goals, but the things didn’t work quite right for them in the second half. Vardar cruised to another victory, led by Janja Vojvodic and Timur Dibirov in the second half. The Macedonian giants remain unbeaten in the SEHA- Gazprom League this season.

Gorenje Velenje- Nexe 30:30 (13:14)

As usual, a mix of young people and the elderly were in the Red Hall to support their team Gorenje Velenje. Nexe did not enjoy much success in the SEHA League this season, but they were always motivated to give their best and try to earn some points. Horvat’s team recorded the 5th draw of the season, when Marin Sipic scored a goal from the line to make it 30:30. Second draw of the season between these two sides, as Gorenje are still looking for a spot at the Final 4 tournament.

Metalurg- Vojvodina 30:26 (21:9)

A game of two halves we might say. Vojvodina’s defense was non-existent in the first half, but managed to somewhat turn things around, although they lacked time to complete a comeback. It was a debut on Vojvodina’s bench for Kasim Kamenica, who managed PPD Zagreb to start the season. A lot of fans who attended the match, around 2500, could have enjoyed a brilliant first half from Metalurg- especially from Martin Tomovski and Halil Jaganjac. Positive Vojvodina fans look at the second half with some sort of optimism for the next part of the season.

Celje Pivovarna Lasko- PPD Zagreb 23:30 (12:19)

Probably the best match of the season for PPD Zagreb. After battling injuries for a large part of the season, Domagoj Pavlovic finally made his return to the court. And just how special it was, he left some Celje fans in disbelief with 8 goals scored, bringing a whole new level of energy to Saracevic’s team. Ivan Sliskovic also made his long-awaited return to handball with 1 goal for Celje. This time, the Balkan Classico brought 3 points to PPD Zagreb, which could prove to be crucial in the Final 4 chase. It’s time for us to enjoy in more matches like these.

Dinamo- Meshkov Brest 26:33 (15:17)

A terrific Sunday lunch-time match. It seems like the people in Pancevo enjoy SEHA matches more and more, as they keep showing up to those matches in big numbers. Dinamo players did well for majority of the match, keeping the score close, and playing well in both offense in defense. However, Mehskov needed just a few minutes of brilliance to secure a big lead which they kept for the rest of the match. Pancevo people keep showing us they love handball and enjoy the SEHA- Gazprom League as much as anyone in the region!
