EHF EURO 2022 Qualifiers & EHF EURO Cup

Last week was booked for the fifth round of qualification phase 2 for the final tournament that will take place in Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro. We finally now know the 16 teams that will participate at the tournament in November. Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro directly qualified as hosts and Norway as EHF EURO 2020 champions. Remaining teams are Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Let’s start with Women’s EHF EURO 2022 Qualifiers phase 2 recap. 

Group 1

In group 1, Lithuania played against Poland who already secured the place at the final tournament and finished this Qualifiers with all victories. The match ended with 40:27 for Poland. The last match of the group was played between Poland and Switzerland which finished with Poland winning.

Group 2

Last week, four matches of group 2 were played. Favored Romania, delievered dominant performance against the Faroe Islands with a final score 31:21. Denmark secured victory against Austria. On Saturday, Denmark defeated Faroe Islands with a score 26:15 and Romania confirms their ticket for the final tournament against Austria.

Group 3

Netherlands and Germany booked their place at the final tournament and finished first and second in the group 3. Last week, Greece didn’t manage to qualify for the tournament, and they lost both matches with the same final result against Germany and the Netherlands.

Group 4

France who has already sealed their place in the tournament, suprisingly lost against the Czech Republic on Wednesday and won in a match against Ukraine. Croatia won against Ukraine on a neutral court in Graz in Austria. On Sunday, Croatia booked its ticket for the EHF Euro against the Czech Republic.

Group 5

Hungary and Spain finished the Qualifiers at the top of group 6 with 10 points. Spain won against Slovakia and Portugal. Hungary delieverd their fourth and fifth victory at the Qualifiers in a matches against Portugal and Spain.

Group 6

Last but not the least is the group 6. Turkey finished phase 2 of the Qualifiers with two defeats. First one was against Serbia, and the second one against favored Sweden, 33:21. Serbia, on contrary, confirmed their qualification for the final tournament in November with two victories against Turkey and Iceland.

Norway, Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia played their matches in the EHF EURO Cup. Slovenia lost in a match for the second place against Montenegro with the result 30:34, Norway already secured the title and the match against North Macedonia ended with 32:27 for Scandinavian team.
